In highlands of Cerro Azul, Panama I encountered this palm frond unexpectedly at eye level, which caught me off guard since I’m used to seeing palms high above, never this close. Its strong, pinnate shape stood out against the mix of parakeet flowers, ferns, and the tall pine trunks around it.In this work, its presence is heightened by a process of flipping and reassembling the image. The frond starts to feel almost symbolic—like a kind of protective marker or a doorway into another realm.
